Emphysema - A Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Emphysema is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the lungs of man. It is often not caused by exposure to toxic chemicals. Toxic chemicals include long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. Emphysema happens when the elasticity of the lung tissue is lost. This is done with the destruction of the alveoli and the capillaries feeding the alveoli. The alveoli is a round structure within the lung established that aid in gas exchange with the blood throughout theBody. Symptoms of emphysema include shortness of breath when exercising and when resting, an expanded chest and hyperventilation.

Emphysema is an irreversible condition that causes degeneration of the lungs. The only way to the development of emphysema in patients is slow for the patient to quit smoking immediately and to avoid all tobacco smoke at all costs, and other harmful toxins into the lungs. Emphysema can not be cured but it can be prevented. To prevent emphysema people shouldDo not smoke, avoid others, as far as possible and should not smoke do not inhale toxins harmful to the lungs.
